Cleaning Out The Garage to See What You Really Have

Our garage is an embarrassment. It seems we stand at the threshold and try to find room for another item. Before my surgery I did make a little leeway but was stunned at all I have.  Other than an accessory I don't have I don't need to buy anything more for years, literally.  My wife says I'm a backrat and she is right.  Other crafters I know are even worse and because I'm the young whippersnapper dump their stuff on me.

She, after hours cleaning the garage out, brought in a box and bag I didnt recognize...at all. Then I remembered where they came from. So busy with my own things, I ignored them probably for several years now. Since I haven't really been able to paint and such its a good time to sort and get rid of things I will never use.

The biggest limitation with recovery is that spirit can be willing but the body is weak. While I walk a bit farther each day, it also tires me and naps soon follow. However, that is good as you have excercised and then give your body an opportunity to heal and get stronger.

My surgeon says walk, walk, walk but in January the "real" physical training hits. Lord have mercy! I hope to go swimming soon and that should help rebuild the muscle mass I have lost. 25 pounds loss is good or not.  ALL my clothes fit for once or are baggy. I feel like some 90 year old not a vibrant 69 year old. I don't hurt when I walk and that is truly a blessing!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Lets Talk About Google's Blogspot

I spent a valuable amount of time the yesterday trying to get a blog out. My back surgery limits the time I can sit upright. When I was ready to preview it said that the link was broken. I could see the blog but no matter what I did it would not publish. Just now after after restarting my computer I got the same errors. Then suddenly, when I looked at it, it had a photo and two lines written days ago.

This isn't the first time either. I am debating on trying to write it again because all of failsafes got wiped out as well.

My family always said that you get what you pay for and Google and Blogspot are perfect examples of this old saying. I believe the Latin version was cravat emptor. Those Romans were wily old folks.

I have no idea what is up with Google or Blogspot but I am NOT without alternatives. If I go to WordPress I get space for a blog and can set up a web page, or could if I was about 20 years younger.

To say I am upset diminishes what a writer feels. Then to have it wiped out for no good reason, well, maybe you have to be a writer.

Down But Not Out!

I want to thank my readers who stuck by me these past few weeks. It has been an interesting journey as I waited for the spinal surgery Nov. 5th. I won't go into the details of that tough few days but for the first time in a few years I have NO pain in my legs or hips from the stenosis in L4 and L5.

Now while they had to realign my L5 and the pad  which were bulging they caught it before there was any permanent damage. However, even in the hospital watching the ads about surgery like mine on TV I realized they lied. IT HURT!A lot. After a reaction to Percoset, I stopped all painkillers and bucked up. I found safe positions to lay in bed while actually walking had little pain at all.
So, I had time to dream up new designs even with limited focus. I was very amazed. I am under restrictions about sitting up, told to walk frequently and rest. The ideas came through unscathed.

The "Honey Bees Birdhouse" was more or less finished just before I entered the hospital. A friend had given me the birdhouse, I had beehives and flowers that were glued on top of painted ones and a few trees were glued to the base. It is shabby chic, something almost foreign to me but looks sweet and will amazingly go with much decor.

Each day is better and I graduated today from walker to cane. I now realize the importance of walkers but am glad to let that go. You bump into many things even while trying not too and those back legs...well, someone will make a fortune if they come up with a better solution.
